Renting in Portland Oregon
Posted under GeneralIt was March of 07: My shoe-in was a tiny room in what the locals call “the 5th quad” aka st. johns area. Honestly I was attracted to the name simply because it is the name of the hospital I was born in (whatever I’m a dork). I had only been to Portland two times before I decided to move come the third. Fred Myer was right down the street: I freaking love that place.. walmart has nothing on Fred Myer.. shoes, clothes, plants, key maker, paint, food, lawn furniture… ok tangent.. back to the topic:
Got my very own apartment in Hollywood PDX and loved it right away. Mostly for the gas stove as Portland seems to be more of an electric range kinda city as far and rentals go (I cook a lot BTW). Third day in my apartment an infamous pacific north west storm came to town. All cozy with my hot soup I hear what sounds like someone tapping on my window.. It was water leaking though the window pane. No worries I thought and called the management company the next morning to report the problem. I couldn’t get though to a live person so I left a message…… days past and nothing. More calls, then letters written, then more calls.. still nothing?!! It’s mid December now and all they have done is put up this ugly eyesore of a solution called thick black plastic. This covers the biggest window in the apartment and is my only source of direct sun light. All my furniture that was against that wall I had to move for fear that the plastic wouldn’t work. I so flipin smart sometimes because guess what? The next morning I had a pond size puddle in my living room!! I had to deal with this mess all weekend: mopping, juggling drip pans, using my towels, e.c.t. Now I really upset.. called the Management company again until someone answered. 5:00 p.m. monday two guys showed up to put up some more plasic.. this time off the roof of the second floor now covering my nice neighbors window!
They didn’t bother to tell her about it either. Ok so now the window folks were supposed to be here last monday (it’s wednesday) and still nothing!! Not only does Portland not have renters rights.. the landlords can evict a tennate for no reason what so ever.. tennates are scared to report problems as they believe their landlords with kick them out if they don’t like it.. something has got to change soon.. this sucks. Renters beware if you see this sign “Capital Management Services” you might want to think twice
